AAUW International Fellowship in USA

The American Association of University Women, awards the AAUW International Fellowship for a full-time graduate study or research program in the United States. The fellowship is specifically for women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents with the aim to foster their academic growth as well give back to their community upon their return to their country.

AAUW is an an international organization who are committed to advocate for women and communities of colors for equal access to affordable and quality higher education. The various objectives of the AAUW are as follows:

  • Improving women’s Economic Security through narrowing the gender pay gap women faces as soon as they enter the workforce.
  • Provision of quality and equal education standard for women through provisions of scholarships and fellowship fund for women’s advanced studies.
  • Internationally advocating for laws and policies that enable women’s success. 

Level of Study: Graduate and Postgraduate Degree Program.

Course of Study: All courses are applicable for the Fellowship.

Fellowship Value

Fellowship is awarded annually with a sponsorship fund of $20,000–$50,000 which is categorized below:

  • Master’s/first professional degree: $20,000
  • Doctoral: $25,000
  • Postdoctoral: $50,000

Eligibility Criteria

  • International Fellowships are open to women, including people who identify as women, in all fields of study at an accredited institution of higher education or, for postdoctoral fellows, research.
  • Have citizenship in a country other than the U.S. or possession of a nonimmigrant visa if residing in the U.S.
  • Hold an academic degree (earned in the U.S. or abroad) equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree completed by the application deadline. 
  • Be proficient in English and confirm proficiency by submitting one of the Required Documents.
  • Master’s/first professional degree and doctoral applicants must have applied by the AAUW application deadline, to an accredited institution of study for the period of the fellowship year and must indicate the name of the institution in the International Fellowship application.
  • This fellowship program does not provide funding for distance-learning or online programs or for degrees heavily dependent on distance-learning components.

Required Documents for the Application

Recommendation:Provision of two recommendations from professors or professional colleagues well acquainted with the applicant, their work, and their academic background.

Documents Required includes:

  • Proof of highest degree:Upload of transcripts from the college or university where the highest degree (not a certificate) was obtained. 
  • Proof of current enrollment– Upload of transcripts/lists of courses/institution letters from the college or university in which the applicant is currently enrolled.
  • Proof of a doctorate or M.F.A. degree (postdoctoral applicants only) – Transcript showing degree and date received, official letter from institution where degree was received, a copy of diploma showing date the degree was received.
  • Proof of English proficiency:
  • Minimum acceptable scores are as follows:
    • TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test): 79
    • TOEFL Essentials: 8.5
    • Revised TOEFL Paper-Delivered Test: 60
    • IELTS: 6.5
    • Cambridge Assessment: 176
