Gate Cambridge Scholarship

The Gate Cambridge Scholarship is one of the most notable scholarships in the world. The scholarship is offered at the University of Cambridge, UK for a full-time postgraduate degree program for international students who wishes to purse a program at the university. Currently ongoing is its application for the 2024 – 2025 academic session.

Established by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in October 2000 and has awarded over 2,000 scholarships to scholars from more than 100 countries. The Gates scholarship is offered annually to outstanding applicants from countries outside UK to pursue a postgraduate degree program in any course of their choice offered at the university.

Level of Study: Master and PhD Degree Program.

Eligible Country: Students from any country can apply.

Eligible Courses: All Course except the following –

  • Any Undergraduate degree, such as BA (undergraduate) or BA affiliated (a second BA)
  • Business Doctorate (BusD)
  • Master of Business (MBA)
  • Master of Finance (MFin)
  • MASt courses
  • PGCE
  • MBBChir Clinical Studies
  • MD Doctor of Medicine degree (6 years, part-time, Home students only)
  • Graduate Course in Medicine (A101)
  • Part-time degrees other than the PhD
  • Non-degree courses

Scholarship Value

  • Study cost: Covers the University Composition Fee at the appropriate rate and a maintenance allowance per student at £20,000 for 12 months at the 2023-24 rate and pro rata for courses shorter than 12 months – for PhD scholars the award is for up to 4 years.
  • Covers the transportation cost by providing one economy single airfare at both the beginning and end of the course.
  • Provides an inbound visa costs & the cost of the Immigration Health Surcharge.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicant must be the following criteria to be eligible for the scholarship:

*Nationality – must be a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom.

*Is applying to pursue a one the following courses at the university –

  • PhD (full-time or part-time*)
  • MLitt (full-time)
  • One year postgraduate course (full-time), with some exceptions

How To Apply

Applicants are to apply for an admission into the University of Cambridge for a specific graduate course. This is to be done via the University’s Graduate Application Portal. This is followed by applying for a funding offer via the Gates Cambridge Scholarships.

Application Deadline: Ongoing and 2025 – 2026 academic session registration ends 11th October 2024.
