The UNESCO Mid Level Professional Program (MLPP) is recruitment initiative for highly skilled and qualified mid-level-professionals who wish to commence or further their careers as an international Civil servants at UNESCO.

UNESCO – United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) aimed at promoting world peace and security through international cooperation in education, arts, sciences and culture. Founded in 1945 as the successor to the League of Nations’ International Committee on Intellectual Cooperation. Its constitution establishes the agency’s goals, governing structure, and operating framework.

UNESCO functions focuses on advancing peace, creating sustainable development and human rights by facilitating collaboration and dialogue among nations. These functions are achieved by engaging in the following program –

  • Education, 
  • Natural Sciences, 
  • Social/Human Sciences,
  • Culture, and
  • Communication/Information.

UNESCO sponsors projects that improve literacy, provide technical training and education, advance science, protect independent media and press freedom, preserve regional and cultural history as well as promote cultural diversity.

Application into UNESCO Mid-Level Professionals Program is only open to candidates from all UNESCO’s Member States, with priority consideration and equal competence given to all candidates from non and under-represented Member States.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a national of a UNESCO Member State. Qualified candidates from non- and under-represented Member States are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Applicant must meet the Standard educational and work experience requirements for professional positions at P-3 and P-4 level apply.
  • Applicant must be proficient in at least one working language of the Secretariat (English or French). A good knowledge of the other working language is an advantage, or in some cases, is required.
